Stories From the Steppe

God’s Grace Is Proclaimed Throughout the Steppe

God’s Perfect Timing

We often hear the expression “timing is everything”. We were reminded yet again of God’s perfect timing during our latest ministry trip to Hatgal, in Huvsgul Province.  It was there we met a 70 year-old gentleman by the name of Tovu, and his 65 year-old wife, Yanjma.  The elderly couple were in need of someone to help clean their barn yard after the long, harsh Mongolian winter.

Our team got busy right away.  As we worked, clearing away brush and animal dung, we shared the Gospel with the couple.  We told them how God created everything and wants to have a relationship with His creation.  Tovu and Yanjma were both touched and asked to hear more about the Gospel.

As we prayed with them to receive Jesus as their savior, we could not imagine the impact our meeting would have in light of eternity.

Two days after our encounter, Yanjma was returning home from her granddaughter’s school play when she collapsed near her home.  When they found her it was too late to resuscitate her.  She had already passed on to eternity.

Although we were shocked and deeply saddened to hear the news of her passing, we were grateful and humbled to witness God’s perfect timing in the lives of Tovu and Yanjma.

A Former Shaman Finds True Peace

In Tarialan Soum we met up with Bayra, a believer from a local church there. She accompanied us as we visited homes in the area, sharing our testimonies and showing films. She told us about a 50 year-old female Shaman named Bathu who had heard the Gospel but was struggling to understand Christianity.  Bayra asked us to accompany her to Bathu’s home, to answer her questions and show her the Jesus film.

After watching the Jesus film, we spoke with Bathu of  how Jesus delivered a man from evil spirits.  We explained to her that God is the God of all things, both seen and unseen and He is the source and creator of everything.

Bathu listened as we told her about the fall of Lucifer and how Satan came to kill, steal, and destroy.  Bathu then told us that she had been experiencing Satan’s destruction in her own life.  Since she first heard the Gospel she had been haunted by snakes.  The creatures came to her first in her dreams at night, then she began to see them during the day. They would talk to her and try to enter her body and the body of her daughter.  During her darkest time of fear she would cry out to God to protect her and the snakes would disappear only to return again later to haunt her.

After she told us these things we agreed in prayer for her deliverance.   Bathu boldly made the decision to commit herself fully to God that day.

Seekers Find Hope Through The Response Center

Every day our Response Center receives calls from viewers both in Mongolia and abroad.

Amun’s story:

Amun is a young Mongolian woman living in Australia.   In January she contacted us to say “thank you” for providing quality Christian programs in Mongolian.  Amun then asked if she could stop by the studio next time he was in Ulaanbaatar.  A short time later she came in to the office and was able to sit down with our family and marriage counselor on staff.  She receive the advice and prayer she needed.  She returned to Australia encouraged in her walk with God.

Uganbayar’s story:

Uganbayar lives and works in Israel.  After watching a segment from our Counseling Program on Youtube, he called in to ask for advice.  He had been married but got divorced shortly after the birth of his son.  He told us about his lifelong struggle with anger and the problems his outbursts caused in his relationships. After asking many questions about Jesus and the Bible, he asked our counselor to pray with him to accept Christ.

Altanchimeg’s story:

Altanchimeg grew up in a home fraught with domestic violence.  For as long as she could remember her father was an alcoholic.  He regularly abused his wife and children.  As a result of the trauma she experienced, Altanchimeg suffered from extreme shyness and had difficulty forming relationships with people.  After watching our Counselor Program online she decided to come in for help.  After a few sessions with our counselor, Altanchimeg expressed her desire to accept Christ as her Savior.  She had many questions about Scripture and right away made arrangements to join a weekly Bible Study.

SuperBook in the VOD

We are currently in our second year of running Superbook on TV in Mongolian.  Last month we succeeded in listing the popular children’s show on a local IPTV provider that has over 120,000 users.  Not only does this broaden our audience, it makes each Superbook episode available in video on demand format, making the show accessible to families at any time of the day or night.

True Peace Found

One of our teams visited Bayan Agt, in Bulgan Province. After showing a film at Gerelt Zam (Bright Road) church, a woman named Sainbileg asked to share her heart with us. “‘I worshiped and prayed to so many different idols.  None of them ever did any good for me”, she said. “After watching the movie I understood the importance of loving the people in my life.”  She said for a long time she had felt guilt for not respecting her deceased husband when he was alive. She had prayed to many idols but never felt peace. “But now I understand only Jesus can give me true peace”, she said. We shared the Gospel with her and prayed together. She accepted Christ and and decided to go to church.
