Craig Lawrence (Co-Founder of Among foundation)
The greatest adventure anyone can know is to be called by Almighty God to a place of service in His Great Commission, and then to watch the Holy Spirit open the hearts of those who have never heard. God created Among (the America-Mongolia Foundation) 30 years ago, when He clearly said, “I want you to learn to love the people of Mongolia.” And we do. Along the way we have been privileged to help write their constitution guaranteeing religious freedom, built Channel 8—Eagle Television—to tell of His love. Daily, we dispatch our teams of Mongolian church planters far into the countryside. They have traveled over a million miles in places where there are no roads, braving weather, persecution, and even death. But it is never too far to go, never too hard to get there, not when you bring the greatest news ever told.
We are a ministry of prayer. Every Wednesday at 7 am for 30 years—now over 1500 times—our small, volunteer group has met to beseech our Lord to reach all the Mongolian people of the world with the message of His love. Called into being by the late Dr. Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade for Christ, at the fall of Communism in 1991, we have been privileged to lead many thousands to salvation through our steadfast team of eight Mongolian church planters. We now support a growing network of 18 countryside churches and—God willing—will plant 10 more this year. Along the way, God enabled us to build the nation’s first independent television station—Eagle TV—which reached a generation of children through the airing of CBN’s Flying House and Superbook programs. We have worked in partnership with CBN, TBN, Cru, Faith Comes by Hearing, Timothy Initiative, Timothy Leadership Training, and many others. Among is a testimony to God’s faithfulness, His promise to be with us to the end of the age. He loves the Mongolian people and so do we.
Altangerel Batbayar (Steppe-By Steppe Team Leader)
I was only 12 years old when Among Foundation began focusing on Mongolia and helping with the translation of Jesus Film into the Mongolian language. At the time, my grandfather had convinced me to abandon school in order to become Buddhist monk. I grew up near a Gandan, a large Buddhist temple. I played with children who were Buddhist monks. I believe that’s why my grandfather’s plan appealed to me. Back then, no one around me knew about the One True God and our Savior Jesus Christ.
I picture Among Foundation as an icebreaker in the sea. Because, they helped Mongolian leaders and influential individuals acquire a very positive and correct understanding of Christianity. They didn’t choose a small corner and work quietly. They moved into the center, where they could reach multitudes. As a result, they impacted the future of Mongolia.
On May 1st. 2006, the Steppe by Steppe team was established by Eagle TV. Their goal was to travel into remote areas to show Bible movies and preach the Gospel of Christ. For a twenty-six year-old, fresh out of college, that was one of the best days of my life.
For fifteen years, the SBS team traveled not only to the rural regions of Mongolia, but we were also able to expand our ministry to reach Northern China, Siberia, and some Islamic countries of Central Asia. Reaching these regions is the vision, commitment and goal of our team.
Among Foundation gave this little boy who had accepted his destiny to become Buddhist Monk, an opportunity to know the true God. Not just that, they gave him the privilege to serve by taking the Good News of peace to the nomadic people, many of whom are desperate for the truth.
During thirty years of continued prayers, Among Foundation’s love and commitment paved the way for countless miracles to take place in this country. Many of which they have never heard about. But I am eyewitness to them.
Among Foundation taught us how to serve and love. Their commitment and relentless, unstoppable warrior spirit inspires us. We are diligently working to pass that on to our next generation of evangelists.
